True Detective – TV Review

The first word that comes to mind is “Poetic!”

Everything about this show, from the casting to the soundtrack, the scripting, the visual effects, just seem to slot together effortlessly, which is what you would expect from a splendiferous work of art.

I was initially very intrigued by the Harrelson/McConaughey combination, not quite sure what I thought about it. Now that I have seen the first season I cannot imagine anyone else but this combination pulling this off. They are both brilliant in this. Both characters are deep, complex and severely damaged. Surprisingly the characters are believable and relatable. Those with an honest disposition who can see a little bit of themselves within each of these characters will end up spellbound. Those who remain detached and uncommitted to the storyline will probably end up hating it.

This show will have your mind reeling, and grasping for answers that we may never know! Much is left to interpretation and may result in some very interesting conversations as opinions and ideas are destined to vary.

Everything about this show has a very natural rhythm, an ebb and flow. But what had the greatest impact for me is that this entire show seems to be put together as I would expect a wonderful work of art. And ultimately like any great piece of art, it makes you feel. Something.
